Executive Recruitment

Slough Children First

If you’re looking for a challenging yet rewarding role, one where you’ll be supported every step of the way, Slough Children First could be the place for you.

Since being first established, we have redesigned the service by moving away from conventional social work teams and are taking a more systemic approach involving smaller ‘Hubs’, each led by a Social Work Team Manager and made up of professionals from different disciplines. This new way of working is called Safe, Secure and Successful. It’s effective and it’s working.

Our recent Ofsted inspection was a positive demonstration of the progress we have made over the last three years and the improved service we offer children, young people and families in Slough. We don’t want to stop there, however, we know there are further improvements to be made which is why we’re looking to recruit the best people to help us achieve them.

Are you passionate about making a positive and lasting difference to children and young people? If you like to think outside the box and work in an agile way, then these are the qualities that make Slough Children First an employer of choice.

If you’re looking for a new challenge and want to be part of an exciting time for children’s services in Slough then come and join us.

Slough is one of the most diverse places in the country outside of London and a great place to live or work. In fact it's the best place to live or work according to a survey by Glassdoor. Pleasant environments, above average salaries and a lower cost of living, mean an increased quality of life for employees. We're also one of the most accessible places to be, nestled on the corner of the M25, M4 and M40, and less than 20 minutes by train to Central London.

Who we are and what we do

We were first established in October 2015, following government intervention, when it took on many of the key children’s services previously run by Slough Borough Council.

We believe that every child deserves to be safe, secure and successful and making this a reality is our vision. We're an independent, not-forprofit company, on a journey to transform services to children, young people and families and improve outcomes, while offering value for money.

We took an early decision to fundamentally transform how services are delivered, with the focus on securing long-term sustainable change. Moving away from traditional social work teams, we introduced a new model with smaller teams, made up of professionals from different disciplines.

These teams are underpinned by the systemic ‘whole approach’ social work model, which recognises the importance of the relationships that surround a child, while ensuring their voice remains at the centre of everything we do.

With a proven track record, this model has delivered positive outcomes when used elsewhere, helping children and families to become more resilient and find their own solutions.

We are truly passionate about our systemic approach and it’s at the heart of our vision, along with a deep understanding of the importance of our partners.

Working closely with Slough Borough Council, and other key partners, including police, schools, GPs and the wider community, is central to our work and essential in making the children of Slough safe, secure and successful.

Embedding a systemic model takes time and we know our approach will only achieve its full potential for children and families, if we have the right staff in place, who are well supervised and well managed.

Recruiting the right person to every position is a key part of our journey and one where we are making progress. Staff are our most valuable asset and we are fortunate to have a diverse workforce who are passionate, dedicated and talented.

SCF is a welcoming place to work, where staff are encouraged to reach their potential, in a transparent, flexible and open environment. We are committed to ensuring you have the support needed to provide high quality services, as we strive to improve outcomes for Slough’s most vulnerable children and families.

SCF has laid a firm foundation for the future, having made fundamental changes which are delivering many positive outcomes.

We are confident this is the right structure for continuing our journey of service improvement, and gives us the best opportunity to achieve our vision – that children in Slough will be safe, secure and successful.
